Antibiotics are essential in the fight against bacterial infections and can be categorized based on their target action and chemical composition. While antibiotics are primarily used for treating infectious diseases, they also play a role in biotechnology and genetic engineering, serving as selection tools for mutants or transformants. Antibiotics function similarly to pesticides, disrupting specific metabolic pathways, but their target is bacteria. Antibiotics are commonly used in poultry and shrimp feed. However, their use at high levels can leave antibiotic residues in the products consumed, moreover some countries have established regulations for zero antibiotic levels in marketed products. We can support both companies and consumer by testing antibiotic levels and antibiotic residues using the LC MS/MS instrument. Eurofins Angler Biochemlab offers analysis of 39 types of antibiotics, including Amoxicillin, Erythromycin, Penicillin, Gentamicin, Spectinomycin, and others.
